DEVARIM, ' ELEH" words of Moshe Rabbeinu

DEVARIM, ' ELEH" words of Moshe Rabbeinu

This Shabbat Chazon marks the beginning of the fifth and final book of the Torah: Devarim, meaning “words.”
These are the words spoken by Moshe Rabbeinu to the people of Israel shortly before his death, after forty years of journeying through the desert. But this is more than a historical summary, it is the spiritual testament of a faithful leader, filled with love, guidance, and a call to remember.

Moshe recalls the key stages of the desert journey: the trials, the failures, the miracles, yet he does so through gentle allusions rather than direct rebuke.
From the very first word, “Eleh” (These), the sages learn a lesson in care and sensitivity: even when correcting others, one must speak in a way that preserves their dignity. Moshe himself models this, referring to the nation’s missteps with restraint and indirect language.

This Shabbat that precedes Tisha B’Av, according to tradition, each Jewish soul is shown a vision of the Third Temple on this Shabbat, a hidden glimpse of future redemption, even in the heart of mourning.
