DAY 4 Enter Without Knocking

DAY 4 Enter Without Knocking

The door is already open

As we approach Rosh Hashanah, our sages give us a remarkable image:

The King is in the field.

So much grows from this extraordinary closeness.

We can speak to Him in simple words.
We can confide in Him.
We can begin again.
We can work on our middot, our character, and return through Teshuvah.

When the King is near, something in us naturally changes.

But there is another image from our mystical tradition that touches me deeply.

The King is not only in the field.

He is on His way back to His palace.

And on His journey, He meets His people.

He is no longer surrounded by the walls and formalities of the palace. He is simply a King walking among His people.

Someone approaches Him.

Someone offers a word of kindness.

Someone simply acknowledges His presence.

And the King receives each gesture with simplicity and joy.

If someone speaks to Him, He answers.

There is no appointment to make.

No ceremony to prepare.

No perfect words required.

Just a meeting.

A moment of connection.

And perhaps this is the invitation of Elul:

Don't wait outside.

The door is open.

Enter.

Speak.

Ask.

Confide.

Give thanks.

Return.

The King is already on His way.

And for these precious days,
His door is open.
